Movie, Market, & 1 Minuto

May 10th– In the afternoon, I went to the ISA office to watch a movie. They have started showing Spanish movies about every other week, and the one we watched was an Argentine film called Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens). The movie is about two con-artists that decide to cooperate in a scam, and in the end you find out that one of them was conning the other the whole time. I really enjoyed all the tricks they used, and it was good filling my brain with more castellano and lunfardo (Buenos Aires slang). It was fun to just sit on a couch in front of a TV with popcorn and snacks.

May 11th– Megan and I went to the Buenos Aires Market which is an all-natural/whole foods market that is held once a month in rotating neighborhoods. May’s market was in the Bosques de Palermo which is this huge park/ green space in the city. It’s pretty close to where we live, so we decided to go and I’m glad we did!

9c151-bosquesΒ For lunch I bought a smoothie, a vegan hot-dog (with a wheat bun of course), and this yummy dark chocolate, hazelnut cookie that was as big as my head. Success!
We wandered around the park for a little bit afterwards because it was such a pretty day.
May 12th-Β Some other students from ISA and I volunteered with an organization called 1 Minuto de Vos. We met them at the train station, and took the train about an hour outside of the city (Capital Federal) to San Miguel. We went to a not so pretty area and played with some kiddos. There is a woman who lives in this town that feeds people in the community who need meals weekly and opens up the building on the weekend for children to come and play. We had to roll with the punches and be flexible, but we were able to do some crafts, obstacle courses, and silly songs. I was worn out by the time I got home.

More to come πŸ™‚
